This is a great piece. The composition, anatomy and expression make it great.

To improve it though I suggest the following...

:bulletred: Go the extra mile with the shading. Some blue/grey shadows would kick it up a notch, and if not, a darker flesh tone. The hair in particular needs some attention and the skull could do with some mid tones. The shading as it is though is skillfully done and works well.

:bulletred: The background doesn't go with the foreground at all. Merge them by applying an overall texture or by using something more rustic.
